There are several times in a year that family is wanted and needed.
Birthdays, anniversaries, key holidays, just to hit the key ones.
I recognize that we all are busy and that we all have family near by. But not all of us have that busy a life that we cannot take time to connect. Retirement, recovering from surgery, or just having some down time are what comes to mind.
However some family just connect at Christmas or just in response to a note or message. Those connections can be thought of as a knee jerk connection. Like oops I guess I should send a note to let them know I received their message.
On the flip side are friends that become family. They check in, call, message or email. Maybe not regularly or routinely but often. Might even stop over or invite to dinner.
Friends like those are family that cares and that means love and respect.

I am a retired Controls Engineer, Teacher and Code Officer. While in teaching I worked with students in crisis. This taught me to listen.
Before all that I had Testicular Cancer in 1975 . In both cases I had radiation but for the Prostate it was much more detailed, sophisticated, and focal.
My initial Prostate Cancer, Gleason 9 aggressive, treatment included Radiation and Hormone therapy. I am now on my third round of treatments. Yes the Cancer has returned but no spreading so far. PET scans, bone scans, MRI and lots of xrays under my belt.
Along the way I wrote a book about my Cancer experience, titled the same as this Blog.
I need to share my thoughts on Cancer and life in general.
Life is too precious to spend it angry, in pain, with fear, and doubts.
All I am trying to do is help others with Cancer be better.
